Cyclists Plant Trees
60 bicyclists from the STIHL Tour des Trees came through the State Arboretum of Virginia on October 7th, 2011 on their ride from Williamsburg, Virginia to Washington DC. While here, they got off their bikes and quickly planted 35 trees at the arboretum, expanding the forest near the front entrance --replacing grass with trees. They planted red oak, scarlet oak, sweet gum, tulip poplar and native crab apple. Each year the group rides in a different part of the country to raise money for the TREE Fund (Tree Research & Education Endowment Fund), raising money, awareness, and even a few trees along the way.
