Clarke County Public Schools’ integrated STEM initiative for upper elementary grades

What is it?
A project to provide immersive, integrated, outdoor educational experiences for the 2016‐2017 fifth graders and to provide support for the continued implementation of developed projects at the 3rd and 4th grade levels.

Who?
Clarke County CPS 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers and their students.
This project was funded by the Clarke County Education Foundation with support from Clarke County Public Schools and Blandy Experimental Farm.

What did we do?
Four targeted professional development workshops and two co‐teaching opportunities (per grade level) with BEF educators demonstrating integrative STEM teaching strategies in the schoolyards and at Blandy.

Each grade level conducted two place‐based field experiences during the school year (one in their schoolyard and one at Blandy). Students engaged in investigations integrating math, language arts, science and social science/geography.
