Blandy in Winter

Young Naturalist Program

Blandy's Young Naturalist Program features Saturday sessions in January, February, and March.  These programs get kids outdoors during a time of year when most of us are inside.  Programs focus on the area's natural history, geography, weather, and related topics.  Winter 2013 themes emphasized how organisms (including humans) use their senses; programs included Feel the Forest; Fragrance and Flowers; Natural Noise; Vital Vision; and Sense-Sational Spring.

Each year children in grades 1-3 attend sessions from 9-11:30 a.m., while those in grades 4-6 attend from 12:30-3 p.m.  Programs include observation, hands-on activities, crafts, and time outside.  The Young Naturalist Program is presented by Blandy staff, with volunteer assistance from Virginia Master Naturalists, teachers, and others with an interest in education and the natural world.  Our program is sponsored by the Adams Companies.  Information for our next Young Naturalist program will be posted in the fall.
